Tide Pools

On Friday, February 26, 2010 Miss DeValois took the 6Th & 7Th grade class, along with a few parents, to visit the Tide pools near Morro Bay . It was a beautiful windy day at the beach.  The sun was shining and the students were excited for the adventure to come.  Some students succumbed to the slippery rocks and ended up getting wetter than anticipated. Others had some not so graceful falls, wondering if anyone else saw but all in all their day of hunting was a great success and the students were able to find 9 out of the 10 tide pool creatures on their list.  It was the first time an HCS class caught an octopus. The baby octopus even let off a spray of ink trying to elude its capture (it was released unharmed after a few pictures) Miss DeValois was in her element teaching and sharing her enthusiasm for God’s unique creations. Many of the students caught her excitement as they showed off their prize finds. Other cherished finds, in addition to the baby octopus, were tiny 6 Rayed stars, Northern Sea Star, Bat Star, Purple Ocar and several Sunflower Stars which can grow up to 26 legs. I’m sure this day will not soon be forgotten.

All School Musical- "Livin Inside Out"

On Friday, January 22, 2010 our entire student body presented a wonderful play, "Livin Inside Out In an Upside Down World".  Zach  comes to realize how different life can be when you allow Christ to live in your heart.  A host of characters help Zach learn what God's word says through songs and scripture.  His world gets turned upside down as he begins to be generous, put others first and live inside out

Safety Week

Every year HCS starts off with Safety Week. The Kindergarten students learn about fire safety such as what to do in case of a fire and they receive a personal tour of a fire engine. The kindergarten through 3rd grades watch the "Stop on a Dime" presentation put on by local officers. They also learned about stranger danger. They watched the police motorcycle leave skid marks on the new parking lot, as the officer tried to stop at the whistle's blow. The students were also reminded to STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN before crossing a street.  It was good to be reminded of these important safety habits. Next, the entire school received a demonstration from the Kings County Sheriff Department on the use of Police Dogs. They saw how the dogs help the officers in the field. Thank you, to our local Law Enforcement and Fire Department for your wonderful presentations and for keeping us safe.
