Q:  What kind of school is Hanford Christian School?

 

A:  Hanford Christian is an excellent Preschool-8th grade school where all teaching is based on the principles taught in the Bible.  The school has been in existence since 1944.  All teachers are Christians.

 

Q:  What kind of curriculum do you use?

 

A:  The kindergarten through. eighth grade program emphasizes the basic core courses of reading writing, math, social studies, science, and Bible.  In addition, we offer band for 5th-8th, physical education, music, and computer instruction.  Curriculum committees evaluate and select textbooks based on the quality of content and perspective.  Currently HCS uses some textbooks written from a Christian point of view, and some textbooks which are not written with a Christian perspective.  This is subject to the discretion of the curriculum committee and the Education committee.

 

Q:  Who owns or governs the school?

 

A:  The school is a non-profit organization, governed by a six member board of directors. The board members are elected from a society of parents and supporters who meet the requirements of the constitution and by-laws of the school.

 

Q:  What are your school hours?

 

A:  The school day begins at 8:25 A.M and ends at 3:05P.M.

 

Q:  What are the qualifications of your teachers?

 

A:  All teachers are college graduates who are certified to teach by the state in which they received their degree, and have or are working on their California credential, or maintaining an out of state credential.

 

Q:  What is the size of your school?

 

A:  We have a student enrollment of 150 in grades Preschool-8th.

 

Q:  What are your class sizes?

 

A:  The class size varies from 12-21 with the average student to teacher ratio of 16 to 1.

 

Q:  In what kind of co-curricular activities do your students get involved?

 

A:  The students enjoy chapels, an annual all-school musical, projects to aid others, spelling bees, field trips, etc. throughout the school year.  Students in the upper grades also participate in a science fair, outdoor education, and a sports league.  The junior high students help the lower elementary grades with P.E. and with some computer tutoring.

 

Q:  What does it cost to attend Hanford Christian School?

 

A:  Tuition rates:                                               Per Year

                        Second child in 1-8                   $3,700.00

                        Third child in 1-9                      $3.400.00

                        Fourth child in 1-8                    $2,900.00

 

     These tuition rates can be paid on a 10 month, 12 month, quarterly, semi-annual, or

     Annual basis.  The above figures include transportation and books which is an approximate $900 value.  The convenience of having the bus pick your children up and drop them off every day can truly be a blessing.  There is a $100.00 (non-refundable) registration fee per student for enrollment.

 

Q:  What can I do to reduce the cost of tuition?

 

A:  Every family is encouraged to participate in the SCRIP program which provides for a tuition rebate on every dollar spent for food, clothing, etc.  Also, families can apply for a tuition discount through the Finance Committee, if there is a real need for financial assistance.  Please talk to the principal about this financial assistance.

 

Q:  What is the procedure for enrolling a student?

 

A:  Parents receive an information packet.  After an application form and a pastor’s recommendation form have been completed and returned to the school, a committee will interview the parent(s) and make a recommendation to the board.  At least one parent is required to have a personal relationship with Christ and have an active membership in a Christian church.

 

Q:  Do you follow the traditional school year calendar format?

 

A:  Yes, school is in session from about the end of August to the first week in June.
