Hanford Christian School offers many unique experiences for its students. Just before Spring Break, the junior high students competed in a “tradition unlike any other”, the 4th Annual Mini Masters Golf Tournament. This is a miniature golf tournament held in the campus gym, but it is way more than just a competition. There is a snack bar, music, raffle prizes, and a way for the junior high students to cut loose and have some fun. This year, it was themed with all 80s-style decorations and hole designs. Qualifying students “teed” off every 5 minutes with their caddies and played through the nine-hole course with obstacles ranging from Pac-Man to Slinkies and 80s fashion. The student with the lowest score at the end of the day is the winner, receiving a trophy and a picture in the infamous Green Jacket just like the one worn in Augusta for the PGA Masters. This year’s winner was Joey Zylstra with a score of 23.
A huge shout-out and thank-you go to Mrs. Zonneveld and Mrs. Hilvers for continuing this tradition. They both spent countless hours designing the course, creating decorations, stocking the snack bar, and making the event a ton of fun for the students. The event would not have been possible without them. Thank you. Hanford Christian is already a school that is different from most. Hosting events such as the Mini Masters is a way to show how differently we can provide opportunities to engage and motivate our students. I look forward to future years running the Mini Masters and giving our younger students an experience that we can all look forward to.
