The Pulse of Creative Expression

The Performing Arts Department at Hanford Christian strives to support the mission to equip, educate and inspire every student to serve the world for Christ and is directed by Joanna Banta.

Students at every grade level will learn skills to develop their God-given musical talents and introduce them to rhythm and beat, music notation, vocal skills, beginning instruments and ensemble playing. Music classes are participation and performance-based, and part of the curriculum here at HCS.

In addition to the skills mentioned above, these grade levels focus on these specific instruments:

2nd Grade-Bucket Drums
3rd Grade-Handbells
4th Grade-Recorders
5th Grade-Introduction to Choir/Chapel Leadership and Band

Students in 6th grade at HCS, continue in both Beginning Band and Beginning Choir. In 7th/8th grades, students are split into either Warrior Chorus or Warrior Band. Students in 7th/8th grade have the opportunity to attend special field trips.

Students in 6th-8th grade are invited to audition for a leadership role on the Jr. High chapel team. These students are responsible to prepare, produce, and lead the Preschool-8th grade and Jr. High chapels. This team of students meets weekly and works with area worship coaches, alongside Mrs. Banta, to prepare and equip them as future worship leaders.
