The Joy of the Season

December 20, 2020
By Diana Schmidt

What’s your favorite Christmas song? We’ve pretty much always praised the Lord through song. David wrote His Psalms, Miriam sang as the Israelites left Egypt, Mary’s songs of praise are recorded in detail.

There is so much joy in praising the Lord. We’ve talked about the peace and hope of the Christmas season, but this week we get to light the candle of joy. And what joy it is!

Many of the trappings of Christmas might feel frivolous, but joy - joy that is founded in the eternal goodness of our perfect God - is a gift.

This Christmas will probably look different for many of us. My family loves large gatherings, but we’re keeping it smaller because of the pandemic. I hope you can take joy wherever you find it this year, and I hope these meditations focused on the glory of Christmas songs help!

"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
